Let's move away from the beasts for now
Now for a figure that I was more curious about than the rest, SS-99 ROTB Battletrap. I can't put my finger why Battletrap feels a bit more different aesthetic wise, from the rest of Studio Series Live Action releases.
In Package
I really like the character artwork on the box, wouldn't mind if they made it into a collector card of some sort.
The background scene included with Battletrap is the "Attack At The Museum", presumably is when he'll make his first appearance?
Alt Mode
Battletrap is a Terrocon Voyager-sized figure that transform into a GMC Tow Truck. He is overall orange and grey which kinda blend in nicely together. The rims as you can clearly see, are unpainted (old news for Hasbro releases)
His accessory is a mace that can be attached to his back.
Important thing I want to highlight is that while the transformation is quite simple, the alt mode have an issue pegging together at the front side and the the towing mechanism is being held by the mace.
Spotting GMC Logo |
On both sides you can see "Bernie's Towing & Autobody" which I assume is a homage to Bernie Mac from TFTM. As you can see there's gap between the gray door panel and the orange portion above it. That is the frustrating part when transforming him.
He's about 2/3 of SS ROTB Scourge length in alt mode.
Robot Mode
Fully transform, I do feel he's one of the best Transformers live-action villain designed. Maybe it's the not-bug-like aesthetic?
He's quite clean with almost no kibble on his back. Despite the mix of grey/orange in alt mode, most of the grey are hidden in robot mode. I prefer to attach the mace to his hand rather than storing it away.
The overall paint apps are clean with quite a lot of detailing. I really like the headsculpt, kudos for not using a generic bug facesculpt.
He comes with a lot of articulation which makes him a fun figure to pose and play. While the joints are mostly frictions, so far my unit don't have any issues.
As a Studio Series figure, I have a lot of fun fiddling around with him. The design is less of a mess and the articulation is good. Tabbing issue is a bit frustrating sometimes but just need to do it slowly
