It's time for the this year Titan. In my experience, he had a cold reception when it was revealed, almost the same as the Ark last year.
True, he may not be something for those who focused on G1 characters. But as a Titan, let's find out
In Package
In box, he's on the heavier side, compared to the Ark. The box art follows the theme of Legacy, with pictures of Kickback, BW Inferno (in pieces, of course) and what looks like Decepticon's ship, Nemesis. A hint?
Bucket-Wheel Excavator
First, let's visit the humongous Bucket-Wheel Excavator. If you don't like the alt mode and asking 'why is he like that', basically it's to follow the original alt mode. Try to get over that then you can really enjoy the alt mode
The alt mode is solid and bulky. Transformation is quite enjoyable, not as boring as The Ark before. The paint app is overall good, and the deco is on par if not better, compared to the original.
The bucket-wheeler can be rotated 360 degree but it will bump into some parts
The original version had the head on top but for Legacy, it is hidden at the back.
The claw's jaws are movable while the bucket wheel is ratcheted. This version omitted the Planet Key gimmick altogether but it doesn't bother me.
"Work" Mode
Next, the less famous mode, the supposed work mode
The mode is available on the previous version but executed better this time
There's considerable amount of transformation involved and it doesn't just look like he's mid-transformation.
The boom is separated into 2 and attached to his hands
The welder's mask is a nice addition and there are flaps covering the normal head
Robot Mode
Now for the best part, robot mode.
Yes, it's a great update to the original version. The transformation is fun but I hurt my hands a little due to the tightness of the joints, especially on the shoulders
The overall paint app is clean and without issues on my copy. The head sculpt is looks really good with enough detailing
Minor gimmick. The mouth can be opened (despite the less-than-desirable outcome).
His weapon can be stored on his back, on a rotating bracket. So, choose whatever angle you want to store it. He's stable despite having the weight of the weapon his back
2 issues I had with the weapon is the tabs to attach the 2 pieces together is a bit loose and tab between the hand and the weapon is also not that secured.
Other than those, he's a really good titan. Personally for me, he's the best of all the titans
- Metroplex/Fortmax/Grand Max - lack of ankle rocker and tilt for poseability
- Trypticon - not poseable but that's how it should be though
- Scorponok/Black Zarak - better poseability than Metroplex mold, but top heavy, limiting poseability
- Ark - poseability is just "okay". Poorly executed design (hollow parts, awkward design choice)
Middle weight, slim design, good range of movement. This is the most I ever played with Titan Class figure. Enjoy the rest of the pictures
So how is he?
First, if you can't look past non-G1 character, he is not for you. But beyond that, he's the most enjoyable titan so far. Instead of titan as statue, you can pose him in ways that most smaller classes figure can't do.
Qc wise, my complaints are the tabs combining the weapon could've been tighter and the hand can hold it better.
In the previous incarnation, the 2nd mode is unofficially called "Brute mode" ...wud be nice if they made it official, sounds nicer too rather than "work" mode..π
ReplyDeleteYes that does sound nicer. But few sites use this term so I just follow
