Transformers Studio Series SS-105 Deluxe Class Mirage - Pictorial Review

Moving on to our next review, the Autobot that was clearly meant to replace Bumblebee (and I actually like the character), Mirage

Before we proceed...

huhuuu Mirage should be an F1 car..

huhuhuuu he should be called Jazz instead...

Get over it. As much as I like G1, this is not

In Package

One glaring issue you can see here is they put Mirage's early character design with different head sculpt, on the box.

Well...not really an "issue" though. It's just weird thinking how much earlier did they produce the box that it used the old design. I could understand for the mainline but SS was always meant to be released later than the mainline.

Did they made it even before the movie got delayed?

Alt Mode

Mirage in the glorious form of Porsche 911 (964) Carrera RS 3.8 in silver with blue stripes.

I must say the transformation is quite fun and is very satisfying in hand.

Although aligning the tabs are quite tedious. The above are results of my one-try without do over.

Not only his paint apps are clean, the small insignia on the hood is also a nice touch. The silver is nicely done but the panels does break the sculpt a little.

While not being stingy even at the rear, the rims, unlike Nightbird, are unpainted. Did they used up all the paint quota for the silver?

I'm discounting Arcee for her alt mode size but I think Optimus is not big enough when you compare them.

That being said, they look great together

Robot Mode

It's funny that this release involves 3 versions of Mirage. (1) Old Mirage design on the packaging, (2) Final Mirage character design and (3) Wide Mirage (toy) design.

While he did look a bit too wide in the blueprint and the promo pics, he's not that bad in hand. (Not accurate, just not that bad)

But his stumpy built bother me less than his kibble though. On the back is fine but the 2 on the sides hinder his range of movement a little bit and that annoys me.

Playability wise, he's good but you do need to maneuver his side kibbles from time to time. Joint wise, no issues at least on my copy.

Autobots Comparison

I was fairly disappointed when he was revealed but in hand, doesn't look that bad. The proportion doesn't really bothers me but he would be better without the side kibbles. The alt mode is gorgeous and very well done. The overall quality is fine.
