Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 - Pictorial Review

This is the review for the complate wave of Marvel Legends Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3, released ahead of the premier of the movie, courtesy of Hasbro MY and Hasbro SG.

The set consists of 7 characters which are Star-Lord, Rocket, Drax, Mantis, Nebula, Kraglin and Adam Warlock. There are 2 Star-Lords per carton of 8. The figures retailed at RM124.90 each for Malaysia.

Much like most recent releases, they came in windowless boxes, unlike the Retro line.

The windowless box was received with mixed reactions but apparently Hasbro will be opting for plastic packaging again in 2024, using bio PET plastics. Official statement by Hasbro:

We wanted to share an update on packaging for Hasbro’s 6-inch-scale figures. Based on your feedback, we will be re-introducing windows and blisters to our 6-inch fan figures beginning later this year, into 2024 for select products across our portfolio of brands, including, G.I. Joe Classified, Power Rangers Lightning Collection, Star Wars Black Series and Marvel Legends. This will eventually expand to all new 6-inch figure releases.

The new windows and blisters will be made from bio PET or recycled PET helping us achieve our priority of meeting our fans’ expectations for extraordinary packaging and superior design while still developing packaging that minimizes waste and the use of virgin plastic.

Thank you again for being one of our biggest fans and for your continued support of Hasbro.

Now let us start

1. Star-Lord

The first is GOTG3 Star-Lord, the 6th version after GOTG, GOTG2, GOTG2 2-Pack, GOTG 5-Pack and Thor: Love & Thunder (correct me if I'm wrong though)

Star-Lord is packed 2 per carton and he doesn't come without BAF part

GOTG3 Star-lord comes in his classics comic book suit of blue and red, minus the red gloves.

Accessories wise, he only comes with a pair of blaster, without BAF part nor alternate head (with mask)

The head sculpt is accurately done by Hasbro, leaps and bounds better than the Thor:Love and Thunder version.

The overall paint apps and the red highlights are done neatly (at least on my copy) without any smudges

Articulation wise, he's good for a 6" figure, with the abs crunch on top of the waist swivel, double jointed knees and elbows

Here he is next to [I want to say...] GOTG2 version, generally the same build.

The blasters are different and plainer, but that may be due to the movie design so I reserve my judgement.

Can we swap the heads? Yes we can. The exclusion of the helmet head, does it mean he won't be using it in the movie?

2. Kraglin

Next, is the first MCU Kraglin, taking Yondu's place as the wielder of Yaka Arrow.

Aside from the arrow, Kraglin comes with a small blade and Cosmo's left front leg.

One thing about the Yaka Arrow, it comes with light trails that can't be removed (one piece). The arrow can be stored in a holster at the left side of his waist which the small blade can be stored behind his left shoulder

Personally, Kraglin is the weakest figure of the wave. Something about his proportion feels abit off, maybe due the suits.

While his other articulation is okay, he doesn't come with a waist swivel but the upper chest is connected using a ball joint so you can get some range there.

I would've thought that Hasbro will include an arrow without the light trail but it is what it is. For display purpose, it's better to have the light trail side put inside the holster.

3. Rocket

Next up, is the rodent!

Rocket comes with his big blaster and Cosmo's body. Understandably given that he's small.

Donning the same suit as Star-lord, this version of Rocket is unnoticeably different than the previous version. You can see when you put him side by side. Standing him up is considerably easier compared to the version that I had before (and the tail can be positioned to make him more stable)

Holding the big blaster is not that easy due to his small hand and small blaster's handle. But you'll get there

Joint-wise, he can handle the weight of the blaster without any problem (even gripping the blaster fine)

Just like Kraglin, he comes with upper torso joint as opposed to abs crunch. The elbows and knees are on single joints.

The jaw might be on a hinge but I'm worried of warping the plastics so I didn't try to pull it down further

Compared to the previous release, GOTG3 Rocket is bulkier and less 'rough', in which both are accurately representing their appearance.

It's like domesticated racoon VS pet racoon

4. Nebula

Next up, taking the place of Gamora is her sister, Nebula, also donning the same suit.

Nebula comes with a blade, a blaster, a small gun and Cosmo's left hind leg.

Again, major improvement on the head sculpt (see comparison below)

Nebula comes with nanotech left hand and that's the only hand that can hold the weapons.

Proportion wise I think the left hand is a bit small that it looks skinny compared to the whole body.

One thing that I like is the thickness of the lower legs that I think will make sturdier and not prone to bending

Good range of articulation for a female character.

One additional feature included is the nano blade which is new to the character. The forearm detached at the elbow to attach the nano blade.

The new version seems to have a better, more realistic proportion overall. The headsculpt is a major improvement, no doubt

5. Drax

Next up, the invincible man!

Drax comes with a set of daggers and Cosmo's right front leg

The figure seems a bit out of place to me but just due to the fact that Drax is wearing shirt. The daggers can be stored in his boots just like his previous releases.

The head sculpt is unmistakably Dave Bautista. Kudos!

He wouldn't let his bulky build interfere with his articulations though.

I like how affective the use of the twin dagger with the figure. Really brings out Drax's character.

I can't really say that one is better than the other as they're totally "different" (the impact of Drax wearing a shirt)

The legs are reused from the older version but the deco makes it different enough especially if you're not looking.

Sorry as I somehow forgot to do the head swap.

6. Mantis

Our 6th figure, Mantis, portrayed by the lovely Pom Klementieff.

Mantis is somewhat a basic figure that only comes with a BAF part and no other accessory (not that I'm expecting her to have any)

One thing I want to highlight is that this is the most beautifully done head sculpt of the wave [it might not look like it from certain angle though]

The overall paint apps are clean on her without any loose joint nor stability issue.

She comes with a left open hand and feeling-sensing hand on the right (LOL)

As far as articulation goes, she's just like Nebula but the hair does obstruct the head movement a little bit (some maneuvering required)

Based on what I looked up [from previous movies], she is [almost] perfectly scaled next to Drax.

Sorry I don't have the previous BAF Mantis for comparison.

7. Adam Warlock

Making his first appearance out of the closet (well, capsule) is the golden boy, Adam Warlock, played by Will Poulter

Just like Mantis, Adam Warlock does not come with any accessory aside from Cosmo's BAF parts, namely his helmet and tail.

Adam Warlock comes in gold (not just his suit) and red, from top to bottom. The red is a nice highlight on top of the overall gold. The overall paint apps are clean and nicely done.

The cape is made out of rubber, slightly thicker than some of the cape of ML figures in my collection. It does have some weight to it so you need to get him into a stable position to stand which is not that hard.

He has quite a decent articulation, without any unexpected limitation. The overall joints are tight so he's quite fun to pose

In terms of his head sculpt, his hair looks to be well-groomed compared to what I can see from the trailers. But I'm guessing this is how he's going to be initially.

If I must, one thing I feel a bit off would be his skin tone. The gold shade is quite light compare what I can see from the trailer.

If there's one accessory that I would want for him, it would be a flight/display stand.

8. Cosmo The Spacedog

Before I proceed with the last part, it's worth mentioning that no dog was harmed in the making of Cosmo.

Fully assembled, Cosmo the Spacedog! I'm not sure what is his role in the movie to warrant him a figure (a BAF nonetheless) but I hope it's not nothing. It's a shamed to waste a BAF for such character.

After you can get over a dog being a BAF, Cosmo is a nicely done figure with nice detailing.

Articulation wise, he's decent for a dog. The overall sculpt is good but the head really is the highlight. The head can be rotated. All four legs are attached to the body using ball joints but you can just get minimal range of movement there.

If he can get his head to face front in this pose, it would've been even better. The helmet can easily be detached and please mind the position of the grooves when attaching it.

The helmet are made out of 2 clear parts which I strongly don't advice detaching them too many times. Once the plastic warp, the connection will be loose and you can't attached them securely together.

Rocket? Is that you?

Group Shots

My thoughts overall, I think this is a good wave, having most of the main characters in it. There are a lot of improvements on the figures compared to the their previous version which is a big plus. Overall paint apps and joint are great, with nicely done sculpt.

The weakest of the bunch to me would be Kraglin. His proportion looks a bit off sometimes and I really need him to have another Yaka arrow.

I'm guessing Adam Warlock won't be the real villain of the movie (probably High Evolutionary, we'll know for sure next week) so this is technically a good-guy wave. We'll be needing High-E and Gamora next.
