Transformers Expo Japan Exclusive Evasion Nemesis Prime - Pictorial Review

This review is about a character that appeared in almost every Transformers toylines post 2000 era, Nemesis Prime. In general, Nemesis Prime is an evil clone with personalities and moral the exact opposite of the Autobots Leader, Optimus Prime.

In almost every toyline since 2003, there's a Red, Black and Teal version of Optimus Prime, dubbed Nemesis Prime. However, the name often mistakenly used to also address Scourge that made his debut in Robot In Disguise (2001) or Black Convoy (merely a black Optimus Prime). The name Nemesis Prime is also referring to the corrupted Dead Universe version of Nova Prime in IDW Continuity.

Nemesis Prime was featured in an episode of Transformers:Prime series as a MECH-built copy of Optimus Prime controlled by Silas. Bringing Nemesis Prime to life includes a complete scan Optimus Prime's body, analysis of Breakdown's body components and the installation of Starscream's T-Cog.

This exclusive repaint of Evasion Mode Optimus Prime, Evasion Nemesis Prime was made available during Transformers Expo Japan in August 2014 together with Nemesis Grimlock, a Black-Purple-Teal repaint of AoE Voyager Grimlock. Both were sold at around 5000 Yen.

Review of Rusty Version Evasion Mode Optimus Prime (TRU Japan Exclusive) can be found here.

Age Of Extinction Evolution 2-pack Classics Optimus Prime - Pictorial Review

It's been 1 year and 8 months since I started this review blog and with all the support from you guys, Black-Plastic-Life finally went past 100,000 views mark with more than 14,000 views monthly. Thank you so much.

It's ironic that the first review that I posted was of Classics Optimus Prime (Voyager) back in January 2013 and my first review after the 100K achievement will be a variant of that mold, AoE Evolution 2-Pack Classics Optimus Prime.

Just like AoE Rollbar, I only bought the Classics version of Optimus Prime, not the set itself. This mold has been released quite a lot of time already (as Optimus Prime, Nemesis Prime and Ultra Magnus). The [official] variants  are :

- Classics Optimus Prime
- Henkei Convoy
- Henkei Crystal Convoy,
- Cloud Optimus Prime
- AoE Evolution 2-Pack

- Classics Ultra Magnus
- United Ultra Magnus

- Universe 2.0 Nemesis Prime
- United Black Optimus Prime

- Botcon 2008 Shattered Glass Optimus Prime
- Botcon 2014 Ginrai

With this new arrival, I'm close to completing this mold [yet again], just waiting for a friend to help me hunt for Transformers Cloud TF-A01 Optimus Prime.

Transformers Lost Age TRU Japan Exclusive Rusty Evasion Mode Optimus Prime

It's been 4 months since the launch of Age Of Extinction Toyline, but unlike the previous movie lines, I feel that AoE has a very limited offering in terms of their figures. Since May, we've seen a lot of repaints being done for these 2, Voyager Evasion Mode Optimus Prime and The Dinobots, ranging from regular Hasbro and Takara releases to Convention Exclusives.

Fans were disappointed when the first picture of Leader Class Optimus Prime for AoE surfaced, given that usually he's the best figure in the line. I was quite surprised to find out that compared to him, Voyager Evasion Mode Optimus Prime stands out more and comes out way better than the rest of the AoE figures.

Best of the bunch

Up until now, there are quite a lot of of variants for this figure starting from Hasbro Version, Takara Version, Platinum Edition (With Voyager Grimlock), Evolution 2-pack, Breakout Battle 3-pack, Autobots United 5-pack, Nemesis Prime and also, Rusty Version.

Rusty Version Optimus Prime was released as Toys "R" Us Japan Exclusive.

Age Of Extinction Platinum Edition Breakout Battle Rollbar - Pictorial Review

It's not uncommon to have a figure from a toyline to be released under different ones. Even in Transformers The Movie (TFTM) toyline, there are a lot of figures from the Unicron Trilogy being repainted and parked under that banner.

Even Universe 2.0 have a lot of non-original CHURG molds released under it. However, only Allspark Power Decepticon Fracture (Classics Mirage) and Classics Bumblebee of The Legacy of Bumblebee are the only characters that use CHURG's original mold to be released under non-CHURG toylines.

This year, we see another 2 sets that include CHURG's original molds. One would be AoE Evolution 2-Pack : Optimus Prime; and the other is AoE Platinum Edition Breakout Battle.

Just like The Legacy of Bumblebee set, I would only hunt the specific character, rather than getting the whole set. Hence for Breakout Battle, I hunt for Rollbar (and the same with Classics Optimus Prime from the 2-pack).

Transformers Age Of Extinction - Just some thoughts

Watched the premier of Transformers Age of Extinction with fellow TransMYian on June 25th and wasn't disappointed to be honest. But to make it clear, I'm not a Bayformers fanboy not am I a hardcore Geewuner. Been enjoying all thing Transformers from all the series, the comic books (IDW, Marvel, Dreamwave) and few other medias.

Never intended to write anything about it but stumble upon a review that shockingly gave AoE some 'harsh' critiques which to me only partially true and the best part, putting something like

" 'I'm also quite sure the old-time fans would be disappointed with bla bla bla "
This won't be a proper review, just few points I like to let out. Let us begin but first, MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!

Negative
1 - The movie is quite too long for my taste, nearing 3 hours. Felt that some parts can either be excluded or compacted

2 - Galvatron is one of favourite character in Transformers universe, but Bay should've at least waited a bit as Megatron has been dead and brought back to life for quite few times already. TF5 maybe?

3 - Hate the new Decepticons way of transforming

Positive
1 - Human characters aren't as annoying as the previous 3. Mark Wahlberg played his character well. AoE changed the movie franchise from spastic comedy party into having more mature atmosphere.

2 - More robot screen time!

3 - Better storyline than the previous 3 and it seems Bay did some homework this time. In case people are wondering, here are some homages that could be found in the movie

  • Flat-cab truck that Optimus Prime transform into in the beginning of the movie is a homage to Generation 1 Optimus Prime
  • Lockdown role as a bounty hunter, just like when he debuted in Transformers universe during Animated.
  • The resurrection of Megatron is based on the storyline of TF Animated where he trick Dr Sumdac into building his new body.
  • Having the Dinobots fossilized reminded me of IDW Spotlight : Shockwave. Hope there'll be detail explanation of why the Dinobots were there in the first place.
  • The alliance with Dinobots was nicely done. Personally, better than it was in G1 and Animated
  • The human-created Transformers reminded me of the fate of Sunstreaker in IDW Devastation series.
  • The 'creator' that was mentioned by Lockdown might end up end up with 2 possibilities. (1), the Quintesson or better yet, (2) Unicron [and be default, hopefully, Primus]
  • The first time in the franchise that the story heading somewhere, a bigger arc. Rodimus and the cast of 86 maybe?

Transformers Movie franchise was never 'phenomenal' from the start. There are ok parts and some bad parts. However, found out that AoE currently being targeted with thoughtless reviews which is kind of weird. However, as the fan of Transformers Franchise (not just someone who suddenly knows everything about Transformers after watching the 4 live action movies ie "his childhood"), I find that AoE is better than what I expected.

I get that people say not all reviewers a fan of a certain franchise etc. True, there's a lot of reviewers know Transformers from the movies only, no more. However, I would've been better if they some homework just to have a basic idea. Why? Because they are reviewer. Is it right if I reviewed a Generations figure then complaint there is no die-cast parts? If you decide to do a review of anything, there must be at least some knowledge of it.

Let say I watch a love story which ends with both the main characters died, no happy ending. Is it right if I say it sucks and a stupid movie when it's an adaptation of "Romeo and Juliet"?

Age Of Extinction Scorn (Hasbro Version) - Pictorial Review

Next is the last Age of Extinction Dinobots from the first wave and quite frankly my favourite of the three. Scorn was never in any of Transformers universe, not as Scorn-a-dinobot nor as Scorn in general.

Age Of Extinction Voyager Class Grimlock (Hasbro Version) - Pictorial Review

It seems that this few weeks, Transformers is all about Age of Extinction. The launching of the toys ended up to be a pretty big deal here in Malaysia, with few friends lined up at Toys Ur Us during their Midnight Madness early this month.

As usual, from the start, never intended to get any movie figures. No offense, it's because I only collect CHURG figures. Didn't thought my wife was the one ended up wanting to collect the Dinobots, haha. But this won't be a long review, just a short one.

So first of, AoE Voyager Grimlock!
