It's been awhile since I do any reviews, focusing more on work and home.
Let's look at the Synergenex Basara Prime, a heavy-hitting crossover from Takara Tomy's T-SPARK line. Released as a 30th Anniversary tribute to Macross 7, it blends the legendary Optimus Prime with Basara Nekki’s iconic VF-19 Kai Fire Valkyrie.
In Package
Basara Prime, a portmanteau of the Autobot leader and Macross 7 protagonist Basara Nekki.
The "7 Mode" transformation gimmick. It shows how the figure bridges the gap between a Valkyrie’s triple-change capability and Optimus Prime’s trailer-based heritage, culminating in a "Live Stage Mode" where the trailer becomes a wall of speakers.
The box includes:
- The Core Unit: The Fire Valkyrie-inspired jet.
- The Container: A red and yellow trailer with lightning bolt decals.
- Head Swaps: Three distinct faces, including a standard "masked" Prime face and two "mask-off" variants (one stoic, one singing).
- The "Sound Force" Gear: Includes his signature guitar and a blaster rifle for when the music isn't enough.
Alt Mode
Recreation of VF-19 Kai Fire Valkyrie
The deep red plastic, yellow nacelles, and the tiny yellow lightning bolt on the nose cone are iconic Macross details. Enough to make people think this is actually the original Macross rather than a crossover
While the top is a sleek jet, the underside clearly reveals the Optimus Prime DNA. You can see the blue windows of the robot chest and the blue-and-red leg assemblies tucked tightly between the wings. It’s a dense, well-engineered pack-in of parts.
The container, while it mirror Optimus having a trailer, looks more like it belongs to Rodimus Prime, with the shape and colors.
The container comes with storage spaces for all his accessories. The spare faces clip securely onto the flap underneath the trailer, ensuring you don't lose the tiny swap-out parts
Even the blaster rifle has a dedicated home, underside of the trailer, where the rifle clips neatly into the chassis, keeping the "Live Stage" clean of weaponry.
Opening the container gives you a preview of the "Live Stage Mode", with the guitar and shield stored inside.
True to its Macross roots, Basara Prime can achieve the iconic GERWALK Mode (Ground Effective Reinforcement of Winged Armament with Locomotive Knees).
Utilizing a display stand (which should've been included), the figure captures that "hybrid" look perfectly. The jet nose remains forward while the robot arms and legs deploy.
The "Prime" influence. A unique combination method, with the GERWALK-style body preparing to reverse into the hollow front of the trailer.
The lightning bolt decals from the jet align somewhat perfectly with the graphics on the trailer, making the two separate units feel like one unified machine.
Robot Mode
The best part, the unmistakable fusion of two worlds.
The broad chest with blue windows and the iconic yellow waist detailing are pure Optimus. Even the legs feature the classic blue-on-red color blocking, albeit with a sharper, mecha-inspired sculpt.
The "ear" fins on the head and the yellow-tipped shoulder wings are clear nods to the Fire Valkyrie
The "backpack," which is essentially the nose of the fighter jet. It’s a clean way to manage the kibble, giving him a powerful, winged silhouette without being overly back-heavy.
Poseability-wise, he's a fun figure to play with. Joints are mostly frictions that might annoy you sometimes when posing him, but only the difficult poses.
The paint jobs are very clean, that's a plus. But not that surprised considering it's a Takara release
The other 2 faces are more "casual" and actually fit more with the body, IMHO.
The trailer transforms from a simple cargo container into a high-tech performance platform.
- Speaker Arrays: Unfolding the sides reveals massive silver speaker cones and purple amplifier detailing. It effectively creates a "wall of sound" backdrop for the robot.
- The Microphone Stand: A multi-jointed grey arm deploys from the center of the stage. This serves as a massive sci-fi microphone stand, scaled perfectly for the robot mode.
On theme with the live stage, thhe blue windows on the robot's chest flip open to reveal two additional internal speakers. This pays direct homage to the Fire Valkyrie’s "Sound Force" configuration used to project Basara’s music in space.
The Synergenex Basara Prime is a standout entry in the world of high-concept collaborations. Crossover figures are often a "hit or miss" gamble—sometimes feeling like forced repaints or compromised designs but this release is a resounding hit.
By leaning heavily into the "Sound Force" theme, the designers have created a piece that offers an incredible amount of homage to both franchises. Whether it’s the iconic Fire Valkyrie silhouette, the classic Optimus Prime trailer play-pattern, or the clever hidden chest speakers, every detail feels intentional.
For Transformers Crossover collectors: This is an essential pick-up that pushes the boundaries of what a collaborative figure can be, moving far beyond a simple licensed vehicle mode.
For Macross fans: It’s a refreshing, "out of the ordinary" tribute to the 30th anniversary of Macross 7 that captures Basara Nekki’s spirit in a whole new mechanical form.
If you enjoy your collection with a side of 90s rock-and-roll energy and multi-mode complexity, Basara Prime is ready to take the stage. It’s a wild, ambitious, and ultimately successful celebration of two of the greatest mecha legacies in history.

Thumbs up!
