Transformers Rise of The Beasts Optimus Primal 2-In-1 Converting Mask

Moving on to our 2nd Converting Mask release, Optimus Primal

In Package

Optimus Primal follows the same packaging theme as Bumblebee, based on Rise of The Beast line. I can't be sure the picture of Optimus Primal is based on his appearance in the movie or just not, we'll find out soon.

12 steps transformation

Mask Mode

Yeap, that's a gorilla mask. So far based on tv spots released, I don't think the blue lines are on Primal in the movie.

Suprisingly, it's not just a reshell of Bumblebee. They put an effort to give him his own mold, as evident to different configurations shown.

While putting on the mask, you need to look Primal in the eyes....

Robot Mode

It's ironic that this Primal seems to have more color on him than the mainline version (yes, the mainline follows the movie appearance)

Just like Bumblebee, Primal chest don't follow the original design of the characters. In this case, neither BW version nor ROTB version.

Just like Bumblebee, his insignia can be seen from the back, in his case behind his head. The hollowness can be clearly seen but like I said previously, I'm not expecting much due to the target audience and practicality.

Rather than just based on previous iteration Optimus Primal, he looks more like a mix between Optimus Primal and Optimus Prime.

Articulations, more or less like Bumblebee. Mostly for transformation with extras here and there.

Size comparison. Not like anyone thinking of using him as a filler to the ROTB line anyways.

Now for my youngest to try it on. He's 4 years old.

Size wise, it's considerably big that you can't make it tight even after adjusting the straps. BUT, clearly on the box, it stated 6+ years.

Still it's not that bad. My boy enjoys it due to the fact that 1) it's a mask, 2) it becomes a robot and 3) it's a gorilla. What kids wouldn't like it.

Change it back to robot, daddy!

I can understand that this isn't something most adult collectors would buy. Still it have display value. But for kids, I think it's a fun toys. Having 2 modes gives chance for the kids to appreciate it longer. At least, that's how I see it, with my kids enjoying transforming them back and forth
