Transformers Studio Series SS-101 Leader Class Scourge - Pictorial Review

Saving the best for last. The SS ROTB releases that caught the attention of the fans when first revealed.

SS-101, the first of the 2nd hundred lineup, starting up strong. Terrocon Scourge, the leader of the Terrocon. The big baddy

In Package

Unlike the deluxe and voyager, SS leader comes with windowless box. Others might prefer otherwise but with that artwork, hard to care.

Alt Mode

I can't be sure what truck is this but he's frightening enough to be the truck that Jeepers Creepers drove.

There's a lot going on here, front to back. Hasbro didn't cheaped out with his detailing, that's for sure. The rusty parts, the battle damage, you name it.

One con for me is the visible hand when you look from behind.

The grill is so much better than how they designed DOTM Megatron.

Size wise, he's a bigger than DOTM Megatron which makes him also slightly bigger than SS44 DOTM Optimus Prime.

An additional feature. Scourge can be paired with SS Core Class Freezer.

Freezer transform into a cannon that can be pegged at the back. The connection is a bit weak so you need to be patient.

But Freezer made him look even better.

Robot Mode

Best designed movie-verse villain, after TLK Megatron.

Kudos to whoever design the head. Seriously, he looks soo good.

Kibble wise, he's clean. Not something easily said for movie figures. His hand cannon can be attached on his back for storage.

Under his right forearm, there's a foldable blade attached.

The tentacle right hand is my 2nd least favorite thing about him. It's made out of soft plastic that are bendable.

This blade can be used in 2-ways, one as such. Reminded me of Zonan and Xinan from a HK comic book.

The other way is to hold the blade. I like that we can have both options.

Articulation wise, he's average. More than enough for him I guess. But the worst and least favorite thing about him is the ball joint at the base of his neck. It could've been the size or the depth of the peg, but the neck tends to pop out.

Size wise, he's roughly the same as DOTM Megatron, without the bulkiness.

In robot mode, Freezer is not as effective though. An important factor if you're buying him to pair with Scourge.

Will Bumblebee's reign end?

Scourge is the best of the bunch for me. The design really caught my attention since when he was revealed. There are minor nitpicks (and the neck issue) but even knowing those before buying wouldn't stop me from getting him.

Closing up the first chapter of the SS ROTB wave, I want to say the line started quite strong. There's a lot of improvement compared to previous live action SS releases. In the pipeline, we're still expecting at least 2 more releases which are SS Rhinox and SS Optimus Primal.

As always, check him out and future releases at MyToy and 1Toy
